Georgia plans to deport at least 4,000 illegal migrants in 2026, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said, describing the target as part of a broader effort to tackle irregular migration.
According to Kobakhidze, around 20,000 illegal migrants were estimated to be in Georgia last year. He said the Interior Ministry strengthened its Migration Department, enabling authorities to deport more illegal migrants over the past 12 months than during the previous decade combined.
The prime minister said the government expects to resolve the issue over the next four years through continued enforcement measures.
According to the Interior Ministry, 2,203 illegal migrants have already been deported this year, exceeding the total number of deportations recorded in 2025 by 70%.
