Construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port has entered an active phase, and the first stage of the project is planned to be completed by 2029, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at a government meeting.
“According to our plan, the first phase should be completed in 2029, and by that time the deep-sea port should receive its first vessels. Work is actively underway to achieve this goal,” Kobakhidze said.
The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development said that maritime infrastructure works at the port are ongoing. Under a $150 million contract with Belgian company Jan De Nul, the first dredging vessel, Tristao Da Cunha, has entered the port’s maritime area and will begin work on the breakwater channel after completing required procedures.
The project includes dredging the seabed in the Anaklia area to a depth of 17.5 meters, followed by the construction of a 1,380-meter-long breakwater. The port is being developed under the “landlord port” model, with the state building core infrastructure while private companies and partners will participate in operations and development. The government is also responsible for constructing road and railway connections to Anaklia.
