Georgia will import electricity from Azerbaijan without an intermediary company, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said. According to him, the government plans to eliminate intermediaries in electricity imports from all countries.
“It is very important that electricity imports from Azerbaijan will be carried out without an intermediary. Electricity will no longer be imported from any country through an intermediary company. Specifically in the case of Azerbaijan, removing the intermediary will save the state several million lari annually, which is very important,” Kobakhidze said.
According to Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission data, Georgia purchased 164 million kWh of electricity from Azerbaijan in January–August 2026. Imports totaled 417 million kWh in 2025, 186 million kWh in 2024 and 3.3 million kWh in 2023.
According to ESCO data, intermediary companies currently involved in electricity imports include Tbilisi Investment Group for Azerbaijan, Lux Energy for Russia and Trading Solutions for Armenia.
