Armenian Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, announced the country’s readiness to become an important transit link between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Iran, as well as between the West and the East. This statement was made during a panel discussion at the Third EAEU Forum on September 31.
Papoyan emphasized that developing economic relations with Iran is a key element of Armenia’s economic policy. The goal of this policy is to strengthen the country’s international standing.
“Deepening trade and economic ties will contribute to the sustainable development not only of our countries but of the entire region,” the minister noted. According to him, joint efforts can create a strong economic foundation that will secure a better future for the region's people.
Papoyan gave special attention to the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative. As part of this project, Armenia plans to enhance its role as a transit state, connecting the EAEU and Iran, while also serving as a bridge between the West and the East.
Earlier, BMG reported that in late October 2023, Armenia presented the "Crossroads of Peace" project, which essentially is the Armenian version of a project aimed at unlocking communications in the region after the 44-day war. From Yerevan's point of view, this is one of the components of the process of establishing a durable peace in the South Caucasus, and if implemented, it could change Armenia's status, helping it to emerge from isolation and become a logistical hub in the region.
