Armenia and Georgia aim to strengthen bilateral cooperation - Minister

On July 3, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, on an official visit to Tbilisi, held meetings with Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

This is Mirzoyan's first visit to Georgia since the establishment of strategic partnership between the two countries.

According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Minister Mirzoyan discussed issues of strategic partnership, bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and regional events with his Georgian counterpart Darchiashvili. The meeting was followed by an expanded session.

During the visit, Mirzoyan laid a wreath at the “Heroes Square” memorial complex. In the meeting with the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, they discussed bilateral agenda issues and regional developments. The importance of economic and cultural cooperation, as well as promoting people-to-people contacts, was emphasized.

Special attention was given to parliamentary diplomacy and active interaction between inter-parliamentary friendship groups.

Mirzoyan also discussed regional security issues and Armenia's efforts to normalize relations with neighboring Azerbaijan with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. He stressed the importance of concluding a peace treaty with Azerbaijan to ensure stability and peace in the South Caucasus.

During all the meetings, cooperation with the European Union, unblocking regional economic and transport routes, and mutual support on multilateral platforms were also discussed.

BMG reminds that in January 2024, Armenia and Georgia signed a strategic partnership agreement.

The governments of both countries expressed their readiness to develop trade and economic relations. It was noted that trade relations between Georgia and Armenia are developing, with mutual trade turnover exceeding $1 billion. Last year, according to Georgian data, Georgia also received about 1 million tourists from Armenia.
