During the 2024 New Year holidays, Armenia ranked among the top ten most sought-after tourist destinations for Russian travelers. According to the Association of Travel Aggregators (ATAG), as reported by the newspaper Izvestia, the country successfully competed with popular destinations such as the UAE, Italy, and China.
Statistics from Armenia's Tourism Committee show impressive results: approximately 2.2 million tourists visited the country in 2024. Russians accounted for a significant share of the total—43.1% of all visits. Travelers from Georgia (13%) and Iran (8.4%) ranked second and third, respectively.
The growing popularity of Armenia as a tourist destination reflects broader changes in the preferences of Russian travelers. Alongside Armenia, destinations such as Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and Hungary have seen noticeable growth. Dubai, in particular, stands out, with bookings increasing 1.5 times.
