Yerevan hosted the inaugural meeting of the organizational committee tasked with preparing for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 17).

The committee, established by a decision of the Prime Minister of Armenia, convened under the leadership of Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister, Hambartsum Matevosyan.

Key topics discussed during the meeting included the substantive agenda of COP 17 and the technical aspects of its organization.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the committee outlined a sequence of organizational steps, assessed current and anticipated challenges, and planned its future activities.

As a result of the meeting, specific directives were issued to relevant government agencies to ensure the successful preparation for this major international event.

Earlier, BMG reported that Armenia has been selected to host COP 17, scheduled to take place in 2026.

The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity serves as the primary decision-making body of the convention and is one of the most significant global forums dedicated to preserving the planet’s biodiversity.
