Armenia has been selected as the host country for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-17), set to take place in 2026. This announcement was made by Armenia's Minister of Environment, Hakob Simidyan, on his Facebook page.
“Armenia has been chosen to host the Biodiversity Conference of the Parties, receiving 65 votes. Congratulations to us all,” wrote the minister.
The vote took place in Cali, Colombia, where COP-16 is currently underway. Azerbaijan was also a candidate to host the conference, receiving 58 votes.
The Conference of the Parties on Biodiversity is the main governing body of the Convention on Biological Diversity and a critical international forum dedicated to the conservation of the planet’s biodiversity.
