Armenia's Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, met with the head of the Armenian office of the World Bank, Carolin Geginat, on Friday, April 12, to discuss the "Competitive and Sustainable Agriculture/CARA" program, which is currently in the development stage.
According to the Ministry's press service, the implementation of the program in Armenia is planned with the support of the World Bank, with a preliminary implementation period from 2025 to 2030.
The program aims to reorient the Ministry of Economy's programs and their implementation methods, address the vulnerability of the agricultural sector to climate change, improve the efficiency of agri-food value chains and food systems, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The program components include institutional reforms and support for green economy, investments at the level of farms, climate-resilient agriculture, market linkages, logistics, and value chain development.
According to data from the National Statistical Committee, provided by the "ARKA" agency, the total production volume in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries in Armenia reached 1 trillion drams (about $2.5 billion) in 2023, which is comparable to the production level in 2022.
At the same time, the production volume in agriculture decreased by 0.3% compared to the previous year, amounting to 948 billion drams (about $2.45 billion).
