On June 28, Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan met with George Akhalkatsi, head of the Armenian office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Deputy Minister Sevak Mikaelyan also participated in the discussion.

According to the Ministry of Economy of Armenia, the main purpose of the meeting was to discuss ongoing programs implemented by the EBRD in the country and the prospects for further cooperation.

Minister Papoyan presented the concept of "green chemistry" in Armenia, the potential continuation of the project in the textile industry, and issues related to cooperation in light industry and entrepreneurship. The importance and necessity of continuing and expanding the EBRD's "Advice for Small Businesses" program was emphasized.

During the meeting, issues related to the development of the capital market, increasing the competitiveness of the private sector, and projects for the creation of the Gyumri "Dry Port" and industrial parks were discussed.

BMG reminds that in January 2024, the Investment Committee of Armenia gave preliminary approval to the investment project for the construction of the "Dry Port" industrial park in Gyumri. At that time, it was reported that the government intended to invest $37 million in the project. The industrial park is planned to be built in an area adjacent to Shirak Airport, which will border both the airport and the North-South railway and highway.

The "Dry Port" is envisaged as a multifunctional and multimodal hub to serve local and international companies requiring operational procedures for the consolidation of customs processes, which can help reduce their operational costs. According to the planned goals, the industrial park "Dry Port" in Gyumri will contribute 3% to Armenia's GDP.
