Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on September 12th attended a special ceremony in Yerevan for the presentation of Armenia’s newly developed tourism and investment guideline. The guide, created in collaboration with the Tourism Committee of the Ministry of Economy, the Investment Support Center, and the World Tourism Organization, aims to enhance tourism growth and attract investments in Armenia.

During the event, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, members of the Armenian government, parliament, and representatives of the tourism sector were also present.

Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed gratitude to the UNWTO for its contribution to the development of the guideline, which he believes will significantly impact Armenia’s tourism industry. He emphasized that tourism is not only a reflection of prosperity but also a driver of it, stating, “Tourism is an expression of well-being and a source of well-being. Those who travel tend to spend more, and this benefits the economy.” He further noted the importance of prioritizing education and tourism, highlighting tourism’s cultural component and its role in promoting a more active and healthy lifestyle.

The Prime Minister underscored the fact that tourism in Armenia already provides numerous jobs and opportunities for business development. He also emphasized that well-structured tourism strategies contribute to global stability and help people discover Armenia’s exceptional landscapes and cultural heritage.

UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili officially handed over the tourism and investment guideline to Prime Minister Pashinyan, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Armenia’s tourism sector. The guideline is expected to serve as a valuable resource for showcasing the country’s investment opportunities, particularly in tourism, and to attract further international interest in the sector.

Earlier BMG reported that, according to the Statistical Committee, 946,162 foreign tourists visited Armenia in the first half of 2024, which is 6.1% less than the same period in 2023, when 1,007,346 visits were recorded.

Russia remains a key source of tourists for Armenia, accounting for 42% of visitors in July, followed by Georgia (13%) and Iran (8%).
