Armenia aims to significantly expand its presence in the international tourism market through large-scale investments and the development of new tourism clusters across its regions. This was highlighted during a meeting between Armenia's Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, and the founder of the World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke, on December 10.
According to the Minister of Economy, Armenia, with support from the World Bank, will implement a major program to develop its tourism infrastructure, involving $100 million in investments. These funds will be allocated to establishing tourism clusters in various regions, which are expected to boost not only the tourism sector but also the country’s overall economic growth.
The meeting, which also included the Chair of the Tourism Committee, Lusine Gevorgyan, focused on the prospects for Armenia's tourism industry and new opportunities for international cooperation. The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to systematically enhance the tourism sector through targeted investments and infrastructure development.
Special attention was given to positioning Armenia as an attractive tourist destination on international platforms.
Graham Cooke praised Armenia’s progress in the tourism sector and outlined opportunities to promote the country as a tourism brand in global markets. He also identified key steps needed to strengthen Armenia's international recognition and achieve a leading position in the industry.
According to the Tourism Committee, around 1.93 million tourists visited Armenia from January to October 2024. The majority of visitors were from Russia, accounting for 43% of total arrivals, followed by tourists from Georgia (11%) and Iran (7%).
