Armenia has established frequency tariffs for deploying 5G and satellite internet, marking a significant step in the country’s telecommunications development. Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan announced in parliament on November 14 that the one-time fee per 1 MHz of frequency spectrum would be $64,400, with an annual usage fee of $43,300.
Satellite internet providers will benefit from lower rates, with a one-time fee and an annual fee both set at $7,700. These rates are established under amendments to the 2024 state budget law.
According to the minister, the implementation of 5G will enable Armenia to align with international trends and promote rapid development in the telecommunications sector. If the Public Services Regulatory Commission holds a spectrum auction this year, the sale of 300 MHz could generate a one-time revenue of $19.3 million and annual revenues of $13 million for the state budget. However, this revenue depends on the participation and success of telecom companies in the auction.
A frequency range of 3600-3800 MHz, deemed optimal for 5G technology by the International Telecommunication Union, has already been allocated for 5G deployment in Armenia.
