Armenia's intensive horticulture program will attract up to $590 million in investments, with 2,600 hectares already developed for new orchards, Deputy Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan announced.
Over six years of implementing the state intensive horticulture program, Armenia has established a new approach to orchard management. According to Khojoyan, the success of the program is evidenced by surpassing the government’s annual orchard development target of 1,000 hectares.
In the current year, 2024, applications have been submitted to establish orchards covering 780 hectares, of which 120 hectares will receive state compensation. Around $4.4 million in compensation payments is planned by year-end.
The regions of Armavir, Aragatsotn, Kotayk, and Ararat are particularly active in developing intensive orchards, leading in the area of new orchards created under the program.
Since its launch in 2018, the program has received applications to establish orchards covering approximately 7,700 hectares, which, according to the Deputy Minister, demonstrates the significant potential for modern horticultural development in Armenia.
