The Armenian government is not currently discussing the possibility of joining BRICS, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said.
According to him, Armenia will take part in the BRICS summit, which will be held from October 22-24 in Kazan, but assessing the prospects of membership in the organization is difficult for now.
Grigoryan noted that many discussions on consolidation within BRICS are still to be held to clarify what this process entails and whether it will take place at all. He emphasized the complexity of consolidation within BRICS.
The BRICS summit, to which Armenia has been invited, will take place from October 22-24 in Kazan. Earlier, Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan confirmed the country’s participation in the BRICS summit.
The founding members of BRICS are Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates have since joined the organization, while Azerbaijan and Turkey have also submitted applications to join BRICS.
