In October 2024, Armenia hosted 203,810 tourists, marking a 4.3% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Tourism Committee of Armenia.
Russian citizens represented the largest group, making up 43% of total visitors. Georgian tourists followed in second place with 11%, and Iranian visitors ranked third with 7%.
Statistics show a slight decline in tourist numbers for September and October 2024 compared to the same months in 2023. In September-October 2023, Armenia received 456,014 tourists (260,618 in September and 195,396 in October), while for the same period in 2024, the figure was 440,371 (236,561 in September and 203,810 in October).
In the first ten months of 2024, Armenia received 1,926,405 tourists, a decrease of 5.8% compared to the same period in 2023, when the country welcomed 2,045,369 visitors.
According to Armenia’s Tourism Committee, the geographical breakdown of tourist arrivals is as follows:
- Russia: 829,000 tourists (43% of the total)
- Georgia: 221,000 (12%)
- Iran: 151,000 (7%)
- USA: 54,000 (3%)
- India: 36,000 (2%)
Tourists from other countries accounted for 33% of the total arrivals, amounting to 635,405 visitors.
Despite this 5.8% decrease, overall numbers remain significantly higher than the pre-pandemic levels of 2019.
As BMG previously reported, the decrease in total tourist numbers, particularly the 3.4% drop, is largely attributed to a reduction in Russian tourists. According to the Russian Union of the Travel Industry (RUTI), the number of visits from Russia dropped to 250,900 in the first nine months of 2024, compared to 335,900 during the same period last year.
