Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Stéphane Séjourné paid a joint visit to the construction site of the Vedi Reservoir. This important infrastructure project is being implemented with financial support from the French Development Agency and co-financing from the Armenian government.

During the visit, the ministers reviewed the progress of the construction and discussed the strategic significance of the project in strengthening Armenia's resilience. Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized: "The partnership between Armenia and France is actively developing in all areas, and here we see one of its tangible, concrete results."

Special attention was given to the positive impact of the project on various aspects of the region's life. The Vedi Reservoir is expected to contribute to the economic development of local communities by attracting additional water resources and improving their management. Furthermore, the project aims to enhance the irrigation system, which will positively affect the region's agriculture.

The ministers also highlighted the potential environmental benefits and the role the reservoir could play in promoting tourism in the area.

It was previously reported that the Vedi Reservoir was expected to be operational by spring 2024 and begin filling with water. However, there has been a slight delay due to minor issues, including those related to the sluices.

Armenia plans to construct 15 small reservoirs by 2026. Tenders for the design of six small reservoirs have already been announced, with competitions completed for five of them. Currently, feasibility studies are being developed for these five reservoirs.
