Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, emphasized the importance of developing regulations for artificial intelligence (AI) without hindering technological advancement.

He expressed this view during his speech at the panel discussion "Artificial Intelligence: A New Boost for Emerging Markets" held as part of the international conference "Yerevan Dialogue."

Addressing the participants, the minister highlighted the dual nature of AI. "On one hand, AI can offer innovative opportunities and solutions across various industries that will improve the quality of life and spur development. On the other hand, we must acknowledge that this technology brings risks and new challenges," Hayrapetyan noted, as reported on his Facebook page.

The minister spoke about the efforts of the Armenian government to maximize the potential of artificial intelligence and develop this sector. "Armenia aims not only to participate in these processes but also to carve out its unique place in the world of artificial intelligence," he stated.

Addressing the challenges, Hayrapetyan discussed the dangers and severe consequences of AI militarization, the importance of preventing these, the need to counter industry monopolies, and managing risks related to deepfakes and cybersecurity. He also presented the work being done by the Armenian government in cooperation with international partners in this area.

"Thus, Armenia must develop regulations for the use of artificial intelligence while ensuring that technological development is not stifled," concluded the minister.
