Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the removal of the planned restriction on duty-free imports of electric vehicles over two years old. He made the announcement on November 13 during the government Q&A session in parliament.
The prime minister acknowledged that the decision was made against his personal stance but was necessary due to miscommunication by government agencies on the matter. Pashinyan emphasized that such inconsistent decision-making practices should end, as they do not contribute to effective state governance.
The prime minister also outlined the planned quotas for electric vehicle imports in 2025: 5,000 permits will be allocated to private individuals and 3,000 to dealers.
In 2024, the Armenian government set a quota of 8,000 duty-free electric vehicles from non-EAEU countries, up from the initial 7,400 vehicles with an additional 600 units added later. Previously, it was planned that, as of January 1, duty-free benefits would apply only to electric vehicles less than two years old.
