Armenia’s electric power infrastructure is gradually being upgraded, but still requires substantial investment, according to Karen Harutyunyan, General Director of "Electric Networks of Armenia" (ENA).

In an interview with Armenian Public Television, Harutyunyan stated that currently, around 60% of the country’s power grid infrastructure is outdated. This marks a significant improvement compared to 2015, when the "Tashir" Group acquired ENA shares—at that time, the wear rate was 80%.

The company has carried out extensive work on infrastructure renewal since then. ENA has renovated 41 high-voltage substations (110/35 kV) and approximately 1,500 low-voltage substations. Additionally, about 8,500 km of overhead and underground power transmission lines have been modernized.

Harutyunyan also outlined the company’s future plans. New substations in Gyumri and Spitak, with capacities of 35/110 kV, will soon be operational, improving the reliability of electricity supply in those regions. A 35 kV substation in Tsaghkadzor is also scheduled to go online next month.

"Electric Networks of Armenia" plans to invest 461 billion drams (around $1.15 billion USD) in upgrading the country’s power grid by 2030. The investment program aims to enhance service quality, ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply, and connect new subscribers.

It’s worth noting that ENA is part of the "Tashir" Group, owned by prominent Russian-Armenian businessman Samvel Karapetyan. The company manages medium- and low-voltage distribution networks across Armenia, serving around 1 million customers.
