The Statistical Committee of Armenia has released data on cargo transportation in the country for the period from January to July 2024. According to the report, there was a significant decline in cargo volumes compared to the same period last year.
The total volume of cargo transported in Armenia during the first seven months of 2024 amounted to 8,999.0 thousand tons, which is 14.2% less than in the same period of 2023.
An analysis by type of transport shows that road transport remains the leader in cargo transportation, accounting for 7,112.6 thousand tons. However, even this sector saw a decline of 8.5% compared to last year. Pipeline transport ranked second with a volume of 1,125.1 thousand tons, showing a 6.1% decrease.
Railway transportation experienced the sharpest drop, falling by 50.6% to 741.3 thousand tons. The only mode of transport that showed growth was air transport, with cargo volume increasing by 10.5%, reaching 20.0 thousand tons.
Cargo turnover during the reporting period also declined, amounting to 2,646.1 million ton-kilometers, which is 9.3% less than in the same period last year. Pipeline transport turnover was 1,778.0 million ton-kilometers, down 6.9%. Meanwhile, road transport demonstrated a 9.2% growth in cargo turnover, reaching 669.2 million ton-kilometers.
Railway transport significantly reduced its turnover to 192.3 million ton-kilometers, a 49.9% decrease. Air transport also showed a reduction in cargo turnover by 34.7%, totaling 5.5 million ton-kilometers.
