Families affected by the Center Point development at 2 Marijani Street held a protest outside Tbilisi City Hall, demanding that construction of their long-awaited residential building begin as soon as possible. The families say they have been waiting for their homes for years.
Protesters told BM.GE that the project is currently being delayed by the lack of a relevant conclusion from the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau. They collected signatures and submitted an application to City Hall, saying the municipality had promised to help resolve the issue but no concrete progress has been made.
City Hall told BMG that construction has been delayed by permitting and technical issues. According to the municipality, no further action can be taken on the project at this stage without the Samkharauli Bureau’s conclusion, meaning the affected families will have to wait further.
The project involves Next Door, a company selected by the affected families, according to City Hall. The presence of an old collector required changes to the foundation design and the use of pile foundations. The project faced another setback in July 2026, when a slope collapsed at the site, halting works and resulting in a GEL 30,000 fine for the company. Further reinforcement of the site and resolution of technical issues are now required before construction can continue.
