Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili chaired the government meeting, which discussed eight issues per the agenda, including a draft bill on General Education.
Based on the proposed amendment, children who turn six before December 1 will be admitted to the first grade in the 2024-2025 academic year.
The parents, however, will have the option to decide whether their kids stay at kindergartners based on a child’s readiness and best interests.
Applications of parents demanding to reconsider the norm regulating the age for starting school served as the basis of the decision.
