China ZhenHua Oil shows interest in oil and gas exploration in Georgia – Economy Ministry

China’s state-owned energy giant China ZhenHua Oil has expressed interest in exploring oil and gas resources in Georgia, according to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. The topic was discussed during a meeting in China between Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili and the company’s Chairman Wang Yutao.

According to the ministry, the sides reviewed potential opportunities for cooperation in Georgia’s energy sector, including possible Chinese investments in oil and gas exploration and production. The Chinese side reportedly confirmed its interest in expanding its presence in the country’s energy market.

During the meeting, Kvrivishvili presented Georgia’s broader economic potential, noting that the strategic partnership between Georgia and China provides a strong institutional framework for Chinese businesses. She also highlighted that free trade and visa-free travel agreements further strengthen bilateral economic ties.

China ZhenHua Oil is a major Chinese state energy company engaged in oil and gas extraction, field development, and trading. The company’s annual oil and gas trading volume exceeds 50 million tons, generating more than $20 billion in revenue annually.
