Only one company China Railway Tunnel Group Co. submitted a proposal in the tender for the construction of the Stepansminda-Larsi highway, which offers the state to build the project for GEL 212,548,390. This is GEL 12.5 million less than the estimated tender value of the road.
The Government of Georgia plans to completely modernize the highway to the Russian border. The Department of Roads announced a tender worth GEL 225 million in March. The two-lane road project will pass through the most difficult geographical area and will drastically reduce travel time. Its length will be 4.5 kilometers.
The previous tender for the project was published in June last year with an estimated value of GEL 246 million, but it was canceled at the beginning of this year, after which the Roads Department issued a revised tender.
It is not yet known whether the company will be awarded the contract. If the contract is signed, the construction of one kilometer of this road will cost the state GEL 47.2 million.
