The construction of a waste transfer station in Bolnisi, which began in November 2024 and whose budget amounted to GEL 1,820,300, has been completed. The information was released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
According to the agency, Mikheil Gogolidze, Director of the Georgian Solid Waste Management Company, inspected the new waste transfer station located in the Bolnisi municipality in the Kvemo Kartli region and noted that the commissioning of the station will save transportation costs for municipalities.
“The construction of the Bolnisi transfer station, which began in November 2024, has already been completed and the facility will be operational by the end of the year. The commissioning of the new station will save municipalities on transportation costs. A well-functioning infrastructure is directly related to environmental safety and, consequently, the well-being of the population,” said Gogolidze.
According to available information, the transfer station will serve the Bolnisi and Dmanisi municipalities, and their waste is currently being loaded onto the existing Marneuli landfill.
It is worth noting that the construction of a new, regional safe waste disposal facility in the Tetri Tskaro municipality is nearing completion. Once the facility is commissioned, the existing Marneuli landfill will be closed in accordance with the requirements of the legislation.
