Businessman and Dio managing partner Tamaz Daushvili says the official high economic growth figures, 9.1% in Q1 and 10.7% in March, do not match what he sees in the real sector. Speaking on BMGTV’s Tsertili, he said it remains unclear where this growth is accumulating, as construction, tourism, agriculture and auto trade show no signs of a boom.

Daushvili noted that the influx of around 24,000 IT specialists since the Russia–Ukraine war may inflate turnover figures, but it is uncertain how much of this income actually stays in Georgia. He also suggested that part of the growth could come from increased legal transit trade through Georgia and Armenia, driven by regional geopolitical dynamics. Rising consumption, especially food, may also be contributing due to population increases from foreign arrivals.

Discussing Dio, Daushvili said the company experienced slower sales early this year due to an unusually long winter, but is continuing to expand. New product lines, including pleated blinds, horizontal blinds, outdoor protection systems and sectional garage doors, will be launched this year. The company also plans to enter export markets and is considering opening a new factory.

Daushvili hopes the political environment will not harm the business climate: “It’s in everyone’s interest that Georgia’s economy develops and doesn’t get damaged.”
