Nino Chubinidze, general manager of hotel "Shota Rustaveli" says that during the low tourist season, five-star hotels offer such low prices to guests that they even compete with three-star hotels.
"Dumping prices occur very frequently. For example, during the low season, five-star hotels can compete with three-star hotels. There is nothing in the country that regulates this. Plus, numerous new facilities have opened, the market isn't stable either, as winter is coming, which inherently means low season. Supply has increased significantly. The situation is tough during the low season because we practically lose our entire niche for 3 and 4-star hotels, because five-star hotels are offering these prices. I don't know how much this should be regulated at the legislative level - I know there are countries where certain regulations exist, meaning a five-star hotel shouldn't reduce prices below a certain point or whether something similar should be implemented," - Chubinidze says and adds that despite increasing costs, hotel room prices still haven't returned to pre-pandemic levels.
According to her, currently the main guests at the hotel "Shota Rustaveli" are from Israel and Russia. Growth is also being recorded from India's direction. Regarding tourists from Europe, Chubinidze says that an increase has not been observed yet.
