Energy Balance Report of Georgia shows that electricity consumption in the country has increased by 14% in the first two months of this year, compared to the previous year. In January-February, the Georgian economy consumed a total of 2.57 terawatt hours of electricity.

In terms of electricity consumption, 1.91 terawatt hours has been local output, which is an increase of 28% this year. The growth was mainly due to the increase in thermal power plant output. In particular, in the first two months of the year, Georgian thermal power plants generated 952 million kilowatt hours of electricity, which is an increase of 41% annually. Hydropower generation increased by 17% to 951 million kilowatt hours. The increase in this direction was mainly related to the Enguri HPP, as the Enguri HPP was stopped for rehabilitation in the same period of the last year.

This year, electricity imports to Georgia amounted to 764 million kilowatt hours, which was 8% less compared to the last year.

Electricity imports to Abkhazia have increased. Abkhazia is supplied with energy through two sources, the first is "free electricity" generated by the Enguri HPP, which the Russian-occupied region receives from Georgia, and the second is electricity purchased with a Russian subsidy. In January-February 2022, 461 million kilowatt hours of electricity were imported to Georgia for Abkhazia, which is 6% more than the previous year. In total, Abkhazia's energy consumption amounted to 659 million kilowatt hours this year. Consequently, ⅔ of the region's energy consumption was Russian subsidized electricity.

This year "ESCO" purchased 303 million kilowatt hours of electricity for the rest of Georgia, which was 33% less than last year.
