Armenia is showing growth in the energy sector, increasing electricity production by 3% in the first nine months of 2024. According to the latest data from the country’s Statistical Committee, total production reached 6.85 billion kilowatt-hours.
The most significant growth was seen in solar power plants, which increased output by 31.8% to 811.2 million kilowatt-hours, now accounting for 11.8% of the country’s energy mix. The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant also showed positive momentum, increasing its output by 5.5% to 1.89 billion kilowatt-hours.
Thermal power plants, despite a production decrease of 8.4%, maintained a leading position in the country's energy balance with a 38.4% share and an output of 2.63 billion kilowatt-hours. Hydropower plants, which comprise 22.2% of the energy portfolio, also recorded an 8.4% production decline. Wind power stations, contributing only 0.02% of total output, reduced production by 36% to 0.9 million kilowatt-hours.
Notably, since 2023, the statistics have included electricity generated by autonomous producers, making the data more comprehensive and representative.
