The Speaker of Armenia’s Parliament highlighted the increase in solar energy production as a key priority for the country.
One of Armenia's main priorities is the development of renewable energy, according to Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan, during his speech at the general debate of the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
“Our country, with 270 sunny days a year, has the potential to make solar energy a central part of its energy strategy,” said Simonyan.
“We aim to triple solar energy production by 2030, ensuring that at least 15% of the country’s energy balance is supplied by renewable sources. The transition to clean energy reduces our dependence on fossil fuels and decreases greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to sustainable development,” Simonyan added.
According to Armenia's Statistical Committee, solar power plants produced 706.4 million kWh between January and August 2024, a 31.3% increase from the previous year, accounting for 11.6% of the country's total energy production.
