The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) is preparing to set new electricity tariffs that will affect both households and commercial users. GNERC Chairman David Narmania explained that the upcoming price increase is driven by two main factors: investments needed by distribution companies and the general rise in energy costs on the market.
“The consumer tariff consists of two components: the distribution tariff and the supply tariff, which reflects the cost of electricity itself. The regulator sets both components, and their total determines the final consumer tariff,” Narmania told BM.GE.
He clarified that the new tariffs will apply to all categories of users. For households, three consumption bands are defined: 0–101 kWh, 101–301 kWh, and above 301 kWh per month. Similarly, commercial users, including small, medium, and large businesses, will face differentiated tariffs based on voltage levels, from low and medium to high voltage connections.
Regarding the expected increase, Narmania noted that while the rise will not be dramatic, it is necessary due to significant investments in the distribution network, the annual increase in energy costs, and growing consumption. GNERC plans to announce the final tariffs at a public session on December 29.
