Large-scale emergency rehabilitation works are set to begin at the Dezerter Bazaar area on 135 Tsinamdzgvrishvili Street due to critical sanitary conditions and severely deteriorated underground infrastructure, the market’s owner, Tbilisi Mall, said.
According to the company, the heavy deterioration of the underground sewage and drainage systems caused an emergency situation overnight, including blocked sewage collection wells and flooding with wastewater. The company said the situation poses a direct public health risk, violates sanitary standards and is disrupting trading activities. Local traders have formally appealed to Tbilisi City Hall and the Didube district administration over the issue.
Tbilisi Mall said that, alongside municipal efforts to restore communication and sewage networks outside the market area, it will carry out urgent rehabilitation of the infrastructure and utilities located on its private property. The works will include the full replacement and modernization of underground drainage and sewage networks, comprehensive sanitation of the area and measures to ensure safety standards.
Trading activities in the affected section will be temporarily suspended during the rehabilitation works. The company said employees working on the site will be notified, following consultations with relevant authorities, about alternative commercial spaces in the surrounding area. Tbilisi Mall said it will coordinate with municipal services to complete the works as quickly and efficiently as possible and bring the area up to modern safety and sanitation standards.
