GNERC Chairman Davit Narmania announced that over the next five years, energy companies Telasi and Energo-Pro Georgia will invest a combined GEL 1.4 billion in Tbilisi’s and the regions’ electricity networks.
According to Narmania, Energo-Pro’s initial annual investment plan was reduced by about GEL 100 million, bringing it from GEL 300 million to GEL 200 million per year. Without this adjustment, he said, electricity tariffs would have increased by an additional 1 tetri. Telasi’s five-year plan totals GEL 400 million, averaging GEL 80 million annually, while Energo-Pro’s final five-year plan stands at GEL 1 billion.
Narmania also noted that, following consultations with the government, Energo-Pro has taken on an extra commitment: to spend an additional GEL 43 million per year for three years - GEL 129 million in total - without requesting a tariff increase to cover this spending. These funds will go toward improving service quality in the regions.
GNERC approved new electricity tariffs on March 30, raising rates nationwide by 5 tetri. Narmania called the decision “optimal” for both consumers and the sector, noting that two years ago tariffs were reduced by 3 tetri, meaning the net increase is effectively 2 tetri. He added that socially vulnerable households will continue receiving state subsidies, with details to be announced by the government.
