The Ministry of Environmental Protection held a meeting with industrial representatives in Rustavi to discuss measures for improving air quality in the city. The meeting was attended by Minister David Songulashvili, Deputy Minister Nino Tandilashvili, Rustavi Mayor Nino Latsabidze, and members of Parliament, the ministry reported.
During the meeting, it was decided that the Environmental Oversight Department will intensify inspections of factories operating in Rustavi. The department already conducts continuous inspections of all major industrial facilities, ensuring adherence to environmental standards.
Deputy Minister Tandilashvili noted that while some progress has been made in recent years to improve air quality, challenges remain. She highlighted ongoing issues with unpleasant odors and pollution, emphasizing the importance of further industrial modernization and the adoption of contemporary environmental standards.
The ministry also stressed that air quality improvements are part of the 2023–2025 Atmospheric Air Quality Management Plan, which prioritizes reducing pollutants from industrial, construction, and transport sectors. Rustavi currently operates an air monitoring station equipped with modern instruments that provide continuous, 24-hour data to the National Environmental Agency.
