The issue of extending the mandate of the European Union's observation mission on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border is currently under discussion with Armenian authorities. EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos shared this information in an interview with Radio Liberty.
According to the diplomat, a final decision has not yet been made regarding whether the 200 civilian observers will continue their work along the border. Maragos refrained from commenting on whether Yerevan had formally requested an extension of the mission's mandate.
The ambassador also highlighted the effectiveness of the EU observers in strengthening the security of the local population.
