Membership in the European Union will bring enormous benefits to Georgia. EU membership means stability, peace, prosperity, and rising living standards, stated EU Ambassador in Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, during his visit to the western Imereti region of Georgia.
“I am really happy to be here in Georgia during a historic moment. Georgia has decided to apply for EU membership. Twenty-seven EU members have decided to grant Georgia European Perspective. There was this ongoing work on the implementation of 12 priorities; this is still working progress.
We will assess this progress later this year, and 27 member states will decide on the next steps in December. I hope it will be a positive decision. I hope that Georgia will be granted candidate status. This is not the end of the route. Even if it happens, it is only yet another step toward EU membership. There will be many more steps.
We, as the EU Delegation, are here to accompany Georgia on this journey toward EU membership. I sincerely hope that Georgia will become a member of the European Union. This will bring enormous benefits to Georgia. Membership in the European Union means stability, peace, prosperity, and rising living standards, so we are working toward that direction, but this requires national consensus – all political forces working together in a spirit of compromise, inclusivity, and constructiveness. So, the work is ongoing, and we will see. In the end, the decision will depend on the progress made by Georgia, and it will be in the hands of 27 EU members,” said the Ambassador.
