Exports from Georgia to Serbia Down 57% This Year – What Do Economic Ties Between the Two Countries Look Like?

Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, is paying an official visit to Serbia. According to the ministry, within the framework of the visit, Kvrivishvili held a meeting with Serbia’s Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade, Jagoda Lazarević. The parties discussed key issues of economic partnership between the two countries, including priority areas of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and prospects for future relations.

The ministers paid particular attention to readiness to launch negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Georgia and Serbia and emphasized the importance of signing a joint statement to that effect.

In the first 11 months of 2025, trade turnover between Georgia and Serbia increased by 19% to USD 17.8 million. Of this amount, imports accounted for USD 16.9 million, while exports totaled only USD 862.2 thousand.

Imports increased by 30.9%. What does Georgia import from Serbia?

  • Cigars and cigarillos – USD 7.8 million
  • Paper and cardboard – USD 1.6 million
  • Mineral, chemical, and nitrogen fertilizers – USD 1.02 million
  • Rubber pneumatic tires – USD 831.7 thousand
  • Oil and petroleum products – USD 656.8 thousand
  • Exports Down 57.1%
  • Georgia’s exports to Serbia declined sharply and included:
  • Computing machines and their units – USD 340.5 thousand
  • Alcoholic beverages – USD 202 thousand
  • Instruments and devices used in medicine or veterinary practice – USD 122 thousand
  • Fruit and nuts, with or without added sugar – USD 55.2 thousand
  • Mixed wood panels and boards – USD 55.2 thousand

Tourism

In the first nine months of 2025, 3,513 visitors from Serbia entered Georgia, which is a 22% increase compared to the same period last year.

Georgian citizens can enter Serbia visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. At this stage, there are no direct flights between Tbilisi and Belgrade.

As for remittances, data from the National Bank of Georgia shows zero volume. According to Geostat, foreign direct investment (FDI) from Serbia is also recorded at zero.
