External Merchandise Trade  2.2% Lower Y-o-Y

In January-May 2024 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD 8 432.0 million, 2.2 percent lower year-on-year, - according to the preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

As of the document, the exports equaled 2 274.0 million (9.2% lower), while the imports stood at USD 6 158.0 million (0.7% higher). The negative trade balance was USD 3 884.0 million in January-May 2024 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 46.1%.

In January-May 2024 the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 79.7 percent. The top partners were Kyrgyzstan (USD 360.2 million), Kazakhstan (USD 274.8 million) and Russia (USD 273.1 million).

In January-May 2024 the share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 68.3 percent. The top partners were Türkiye (USD 1 078.1 million), Russia (USD 731.0 million) and United States (USD 601.4 million).

In January-May 2024 wine of fresh grapes reclaimed the first place in the list of top export items, equaling USD 140.3 million, or 13.6 percent of total exports. The exports of ferro-alloys totaled USD 105.5 million and their share in the total exports amounted to 10.2 percent. The exports of precious metal ores and concentrates, occupied the third place, standing at USD 73.1 million and constituting 7.1 percent of the total exports.
