The international tender for an economic feasibility study of the Tbilisi-Rustavi, Tbilisi-Airport, Tbilisi-Lilo and Tbilisi-Mtskheta urban railway project has been extended until July 20. The tender, financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), was prolonged by Tbilisi City Hall and the Tbilisi Development Fund.
The estimated value of the consultancy service is $393,000. The selected consultant will assess the technical, economic, financial, environmental and social feasibility of developing an overground metro system using existing railway infrastructure and, if needed, additional routes.
The study will include passenger demand forecasts, station locations, rolling stock and depot requirements, tariff models, investment costs and economic analysis. It will examine railway connections between Tbilisi and nearby cities, including Rustavi, Mtskheta and Marneuli.
The project aims to improve regional mobility and reduce congestion as the capital’s population and vehicle numbers continue to grow. The eight-month feasibility study is expected to become the foundation for potential financing and future implementation of the metropolitan railway system.
