Forecasted Wheat Harvest for 2025 Reaches 200,000 Tons - Weather Delays Might Affect Quality

The forecast for Georgia’s 2025 wheat harvest stands at 200,000 tons, a figure roughly in line with last year’s yield, according to Levan Silagava, Executive Director of the Georgian Wheat and Flour Producers Association.

“This year, the projected harvest is around 200,000 tons, slightly more than last year. This includes both food and non-food wheat,” Silagava stated.

However, adverse weather conditions, particularly heavy rains during the harvesting period, have disrupted operations and negatively impacted wheat quality. As a result, some of the crop that was initially classified as food-grade wheat has now been downgraded to non-food status.

“Unfortunately, the weather hasn’t been favorable for harvesting, which has slowed down the process and affected wheat quality. Over the next three days, the Ministry of Agriculture will be collecting more detailed data, and we’ll determine whether adjustments to the forecast are needed, particularly regarding quality,” Silagava added.

Despite these challenges, wheat prices have increased compared to 2024. According to Silagava, the current delivery price to flour mills ranges between 65 and 70 tetri per kilogram, up from 60 tetri last year.

In terms of flour prices, Silagava shared a more optimistic outlook:

“At the moment, the price of a 50-kg bag of first-grade flour is around 56 GEL. With the expected decline in wheat prices, we anticipate that flour prices may drop by 3–4 GEL per bag,” he said.

As the harvest continues, stakeholders across the sector are closely monitoring weather conditions, quality assessments, and price trends, all of which will shape the final outcome of Georgia’s 2025 wheat season.
