Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, as part of the ongoing UN General Assembly, held a meeting with Prime Minister Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah of the State of Kuwait.
The meeting emphasized that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, with their bilateral relations and partnership boasting excellent growing dynamics, though there still is untapped potential. The parties underlined the importance of holding the inaugural session of the joint commission for cooperation, also expressing commitment to organizing it in the nearest future.
The significance of opening Kuwait's embassy in Tbilisi was also emphasized in that it will foster the further development of bilateral relations across a variety of areas.
The Kuwaiti side expressed an interest in implementing investment projects in Georgia.
Irakli Garibashvili congratulated the Prime Minister of Kuwait on the country's Presidency of the League of Arab States, pointing out that the Georgian Government pays serious attention to developing productive cooperation with the League of Arab States and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The conversation also touched on the potential of developing bilateral trade and economic cooperation and prospects of signing a free trade agreement with the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, to bolster both the development of industries and export diversification.
Special attention was paid to tourism cooperation and the growing numbers of Kuwaiti visitors, a fact underpinned by the visa waiver for the citizens of the State of Kuwait. The parties also discussed prospects of resuming direct flights between the two countries.
Held at the Permanent Mission of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations in New York, the meeting was attended by Georgia's Vice Prime Minister/Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani, Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations Organization Kakha Imnadze, and Head of the Government's Administration Ilia Darchiashvili.
