In the first seven months of 2025, Georgia consumed nearly 1.8 billion cubic meters (m³) of natural gas, according to data published by Geostat. This represents a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Of the total, 220 million m³ was consumed by thermal power plants, marking a decline in their share of gas usage.

Between January and July 2025, Georgia imported natural gas worth USD 236.5 million, up nearly 7% year-on-year. The country sources its gas exclusively from Azerbaijan and Russia, with noticeable shifts in supply dynamics.

  • Payments to Azerbaijan amounted to USD 125 million, while imports from the country fell by 6% compared to last year.
  • Payments to Russia reached USD 111.6 million, with imports up by 26% year-on-year.

The trend of decreasing Azerbaijani imports and increasing reliance on Russian gas has continued in 2025.

According to the report, in 2024 Georgia imported 775 million m³ of gas from Azerbaijan (excluding optional and additional volumes), while imports from Russia rose to 788 million m³. Compared to 2023, Russian gas imports increased by 32%.
