Georgia’s Roads Department has started construction of the 9-kilometer Shkmeri-Mravaldzali road in Oni Municipality, Racha, based on a government decision.
The project’s cost is estimated at up to GEL 23 million, with completion scheduled for the end of 2028. The Roads Department said the project is one of the key infrastructure initiatives for the Racha region, given the historical, cultural, and tourism importance of Shkmeri and Mravaldzali.
The existing gravel road is significantly damaged, creating difficulties for both residents and visitors, especially during rainy periods. Once completed, the upgraded road will provide safer and more comfortable access, supporting tourism development and creating new economic opportunities in the region.
