More than GEL 24.4 million will be invested in irrigation infrastructure projects in Georgia’s Shida Kartli region in 2026 to improve water supply for farmers. According to the state-owned Georgian Amelioration company, the projects include completed works, ongoing rehabilitation and new capital investments.

Two major projects, with a combined investment exceeding GEL 6 million, have already been completed. These include rehabilitation of sections of the Skra-Kareli irrigation systems, costing GEL 5.33 million.

Five capital projects worth a total of GEL 11.4 million are currently underway in Kaspi, Kareli and Khashuri municipalities. The works include rehabilitating irrigation pipelines and canals, reconstructing hydraulic structures and building a vehicle crossing over the Skra-Kareli main canal. Four of the projects, excluding the vehicle crossing, are scheduled for completion in 2027 and are expected to improve irrigation across 9,835 hectares of agricultural land.

Three additional capital projects, with an estimated combined budget of GEL 6.9 million, are planned to begin this year. They include upgrades to the Tiriponi irrigation system’s distributor and the Nadarbazevi Reservoir’s intake tower and feeder canals in Gori Municipality, as well as rehabilitation of a distribution canal in Akhaltsopeli village, Khashuri Municipality. These works are expected to improve water supply to a further 1,650 hectares. Georgian Amelioration will also continue routine maintenance, including cleaning canals and pipelines, repairing hydraulic structures and replacing worn-out infrastructure components.
