Up to GEL 10 million will be invested in irrigation infrastructure projects in Kareli Municipality in 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture said. The projects are expected to improve irrigation systems and water access for farmers.
The GEL 5.3 million rehabilitation of the Skra-Kareli irrigation system has already been completed. Two additional projects worth more than GEL 2 million are currently underway.
A GEL 2.1 million project is also planned to secure water intake from the Mtkvari River for the Skra-Kareli system. It is expected to improve water supply across 3,240 hectares.
Across Shida Kartli, nearly GEL 21 million will be invested in irrigation projects this year, improving water access on 13,600 hectares. Maintenance works have also covered 278 km of irrigation canals and included repairs or replacement of more than 300 hydraulic structures.
