Georgia’s Roads Department has announced two electronic tenders worth GEL 50 million each for emergency riverbank and coastal protection works in Eastern and Western Georgia. The combined value of the contracts is GEL 100 million.

The projects are designed to address unforeseen and urgent emergencies along riverbanks and coastal areas. Contractors may be required to prepare detailed designs and cost estimates as well as carry out construction, with work on at least five sites beginning within five days of receiving an official order.

The 24-month contracts may include rock and concrete protection structures, gabions, retaining walls, wave barriers and artificial beaches, as well as research and cleanup of affected areas. Projects will be based on local geological, hydrological and climatic conditions and will also assess environmental risks, including protected areas and endangered species.

The tenders were announced on September 7, with bids to be submitted from October 4 through October 9. Companies must have completed similar projects worth at least 80% of the GEL 50 million contract value, or GEL 40 million, including at least one completed contract worth GEL 10 million or more.
