The Georgian government has approved a targeted program to provide free school uniforms to selected categories of public primary school students. Under a decree adopted on August 3, the initiative aims to promote equal access to education, social inclusion, and student participation, with annual funding allocated through the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth.
Free uniforms will be provided to six categories of beneficiaries: children from socially vulnerable families with a rating score below 65,001, children in foster care, residents of small group homes, children using homeless shelters, children living in the Tbilisi Children's Home, and Ukrainian students enrolled in Georgian public schools after being displaced by the war that began on February 24, 2022.
The uniform set includes one blazer and two pairs of trousers for boys, and one blazer, one pair of trousers, and one skirt for girls. The ministry has set the retail price at GEL 95 per uniform set and prohibited sales at different prices.
Separately, the state signed a GEL 45.7 million contract with Glory Textile Industry LLC for the supply of 1.8 million uniform items. Deliveries will be completed in three phases by the end of November 2026. The uniforms will be manufactured by China's Jiangsu SUMEC ETON KIDD Brand Management Co., Ltd. under the Eton Kidd brand and must comply with OEKO-TEX Standard 100 quality requirements. The contract was awarded through direct negotiations rather than a public tender.
