The Georgian government has increased electricity subsidies for socially vulnerable and large families following a recent rise in power tariffs. According to the Ministry of Health, the adjustment is aimed at keeping electricity costs stable for these groups despite the new pricing.
Households with a social rating score below 70,000 will now receive an additional subsidy of 5 tetri per kWh, bringing total support to 8.5 tetri per kWh. Previously, this subsidy was 3.5 tetri. Families with scores between 70,000 and 150,000 will also receive support for up to 200 kWh at the updated rate of 8.5 tetri per kWh.
For large families, monthly electricity support has increased from 20 to 30 GEL, with an additional 10 GEL provided for each subsequent child. The changes apply nationwide and came into force on 1 April.
The adjustments follow a decision by the Georgian energy regulator (GNERC), which increased electricity tariffs by around 5 tetri for households and 4–6 tetri for businesses, effective from April.
