Last year, the country's gas consumption remained almost unchanged and exceeded 3 billion m3. In 2024, the country traditionally consumed almost entirely imported gas.
One of the reasons for the lack of growth in gas consumption was thermal power plants, which the government operated at a lower load last year. As a result, their generation decreased significantly by 18% annually, which was due to increased imports and hydropower generation and reduced exports.
Last year, the country purchased a total of up to USD 400 million worth of gas from Russia and Azerbaijan. Of this, USD 145.7 million worth of gas was purchased from Russia, while USD 254.1 million from Azerbaijan.
